1800's~FRENCH NAVY CUTLASS FIGHTING KNIFE MILITARY SHORT SWORD w/ORIG. SHEATH~

Description

This auction is for a very rare pre 1850's French fighting knife cutlass short sword with the original scabbard. I could not precisely identify this fighting knife weapon although it has the exact kind of handle used on the M1831 French Navy or Foot Infantry Cutlass Short Sword with a solid cast brass handle with cruciform cross guard, circular quillons, and ribbed grip. This knife has a sharp slightly curved single edge encapsulated full tang carbon steel blade, the M1831 had a straight blade. The original leather sheath has brass attachments and indicates this knife has not been altered or modified in its shape. Overall this knife and scabbard are still in very good+ condition showing some minor micro pitting blemishes on the blade and wear to the still supple leather. Please zoom in on all pictures for details. The knife measures 16 1/2" with an 11 1/2" blade and in the sheath the weight is 1 lb. 6 oz.
