1880's~GERMAN IMPERIAL HUNTSMAN SWORD~W.K.C. HIRSCHFANGER DAGGER KNIFE & SHEATH~

Description

This auction is for a top quality rare original 1880's antique Hirschfanger German Imperial Huntsman-Forestry short sword dagger knife made by Weyersberg-Kirschbaum Company with the original scabbard. This fancy classic decorative sword has a deer stag antler handle grip adorned with three acorns, brass button end pommel, a brass clamshell and deer hooves blade guard, and an encapsulated full tang carbon steel dagger blade with decorative acid etched Art Nouveau floral scrolling and three images of crossed swords, a backpack with a pickelhaube, sword, shovel, and pick, and a marching band drum with sword. The leather covered wooden scabbard also has brass ends, one with another acorn. This dagger style short sword long knife has an unsharpened spear point single edge, plain back edge, and was used as a last resort to deliver the final dispatching blow after a rifle shot did not completely kill the boar or other trophy animal being hunted. There is some minor micro pitting blemishes around the end of the blade but the etching is complete and fine, there is a tiny bit of movement with the blade guard, the scabbard tip has one tiny ding and the leather is all fine also, overall it is still in excellent to near excellent condition for approx. 140 years old. Please zoom in on all pictures for details. This short sword dagger measures 24 3/4" with a 19 1/4" blade and in the scabbard the weight is 1 lb. 1 oz.
