Maasai Seme Sword Knife Mid Century East African Spring Steel Red Hide Scabbard.
This is an unaltered piece that was obtained from a local collector’s estate.
This is a dual edged sword made from spring steel. It has a few deflections on the edges from past use.
The handle appears to be rapped in some sort of leather or hide. How it’s constructed I do not know.
The sheath is extraordinary in it’s design. It appears to be thin wood that was rapped in red hide (very strong)
The belt or rope loop is made into the same hide with no joints (amazing)
The knife fits very tight and may need some kind of oil to loosen the fit.
From my research these were and are carried on a daily basis and used for many encounters.
A very unique piece that needs a proper home.
