If you were suddenly castaway on a desert island or stranded in the wilderness or a jungle, what's the one tool you would want at your side? The answer is a good machete. You see the machete, over the last three centuries, has proven to be the ultimate outdoor and survival tool. It will cut, chop, slash, hack, split, scrape, scoop, hammer, dig, crush, carve, whittle, crack or smash just about anything you can put in front of it. The machete also makes a deadly improvised weapon. It can be used to kill both fish and game and will gut, scale, filet, skin, quarter, and butcher them for the table as well. And when you look at its meager cost, it's got to be one of the best bargains for hard earned cash in the world. In fact it's so cheap and useful that even the poorest peasant in South America or tribesman in Africa invariably owns one and counts on it as one of his most precious possessions.
These blades are made out of 1055 Carbon Steel with a tough spring temper and are surfaced with a black, baked-on anti-rust finish. Each Cold Steel machete comes with a good utility edge which, with just a little work, can be made hair shaving sharp. The tough, Polypropylene handles of our machetes are designed to provide a comfortable secure grip, and they are rugged enough to resist chipping, cracking or breaking, so they last practically forever.
There's no single edged weapon that we can think of that can out-chop or out-cut a good Kukri. It's true that the best Kukris, like our LTC and Gurkha models, can be somewhat expensive. While those "thoroughbreds" perform extraordinarily well for the money that they cost, it sometimes seems that what's required is a good, inexpensive, "workhorse" model. Our Kukri Machetes are those workhorses. They are available in two sizes, one has a thirteen inch blade and the other, our new "Magnum" model has a whopping seventeen inch blade. Both are ready to plow through the toughest chores life can dish out. Each features the distinctive weight-forward balance of our "top-of-the-line" models, and always present their edge on an angle so they're guaranteed to "bite" deep with every stroke. Additionally, they come complete with a sturdy Cor-Ex sheath! They're a solid value, ready for long, hard work.
Cold Steel, Incorporated was founded in 1980, a company dedicated to making the strongest, sharpest knives in the world. Over the last three decades, Cold Steel has been at the forefront of the many innovations that have helped to define the knife industry as a whole. Progressive accomplishment, including the introduction of the checked Kraton handles, and the tanto point blade styles have gone from curiously interesting features to industry-wide hallmarks of quality and sophistication. New ground was also broken with the introduction of unique new blade steels like San Mai III and Tri-Ad Lock& locking mechanism for folding knives. Tri-Ad Lock for example, has never been equaled by any of Cold Steel's competitors and nothing they have produced yet has been proven to outperform it. Of course Cold Steel will always look to the future, constantly striving to make the world's strongest, sharpest knives. That goal as elusive and difficult to achieve as it is, has been the same for the past thirty years..
