Gilt-Bronze Maitreya in Meditation
:  The Gilt-bronze half-seated Maitreya in Meditation is a gilt-bronze statue of what is believed to be the Maitreya, the future Buddha, in a semi-seated contemplative pose. It is commonly referred to as the Contemplative Bodhisattva, Pensive Bodhisattva, or Gilt-Bronze Seated Maitreya in English. In Korean it is frequently referred to as pan'gasayusang. It is the National Treasure of Korea No. 83. This masterpiece of Buddhist sculpture is said to be a source of the study of Korean sculpture. The half-seated Maitreya is absorbed in deep meditation with its posture of the right leg on the left lap, delicate fingers touching the cheek. It is said the meditation originated in the Buddha speculating the vanities of life. The statue is widely acknowledged to be one of the finest Buddhist sculptures ever produced and is a masterpiece of Korean art.
