SABER HANDLING NOT SHARPED BUT SUITABLE FOR SHARPENING
All Japanese officers were required to wear a saber as a sign of their rank. Although traditional armorers made great blades, they were unable to do so on a massive scale. Less traditional plants using less traditional metals and techniques have taken advantage of this vulnerability. Nevertheless, they still maintained the symbolic Japanese military status.
This katana-like blade was called Shin Gunto which means new war blade. They were used alongside the older Kyu Gunto swords that combined the features of western weapons. Shin Gunto sabers they became more popular in the 1930s and during World War II when they symbolized the samurai traditions. Shin Gunto
swords, mass-produced from steel, have completely replaced traditional plants, but they have not lost their quality and are still deadly sharp.
