RARE and OBSOLETE Early Issue Large Size RCMP Brass Shoulder Title

THIS IS AN OBSOLETE POLICE INSIGNIA THAT HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR NEARLY 100 YEARS.
In 1920 the
Royal North West Mounted Police
were renamed the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police
, this is an early Brass RCMP shoulder title from that period. In the book
Insignia of the Canadian Mounted Police 1873 – 1998 by Donald Klancher,
this title reference number is
# 8-15
, notice the sharp ends on the letter
C
and the narrow horizontal bar on the letter
R
.
approx. size of title is 13mm by 58mm. These early large titles were replaced by the more familiar smaller ones. The large titles continued in use through the 1940’s and into the early 1950’s , by being worn on the issue Pea Coat or Jacket. These titles are the same height as the standard RCMP title , but are much longer, they are

inches long as opposed to the later variation that is only
1 7/16
inches long, original lug fasteners.

INTERESTING NOTE IS THE THIS RCMP TITLE IS EXACTLY THE SAME SIZE AS THE PREVIOUSLY WORN RNWMP TITLE, POSITION OF THE LUG FASTENERS ARE ALMOST THE SAME, A MEMBER WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO MAKE NEW HOLES IN THE EPAULETS OF HIS RED SERGE TO ACCOMMODATE THE NEW TITLE CHANGE, WONDER IF THAT WAS TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION WITH THE SIZE OF THE NEW RCMP TITLE OF 1920.

: AUCTION IS ONLY FOR THE LARGER TITLE, THE SMALLER ONE SHOWN IS THE ONE THAT CAME INTO USE AFTER THE LARGER ONE WAS DISCONTINUED, IT IS ONLY THERE FOR SIZE COMPARISON. THE SMALLER TITLE IS ALSO NO LONGER BEING USED. THE NEW TITLE IS RCMP over GRC was adopted in 1970.
