Description
A very nice American eagle head sword with oval counter guard with a large American Eagle on it. The shallow reverse “P” guard has a lion’s mask in the middle. The quillon has an eagle with shield. The grips are mother of pearl. The ferrule has a line of oak leaves interspersed with grape vines. The brass scabbard full length along the edges, and more extensively at the bands and drag, including oak leaves. There is an engraved frog button. The straight single edged blade is blue and gold with generic decoration, and is probably French made.Condition: The hilt retains most of its gilding but blue is missing on one side and only spotty on the side with it. The scabbard has lost most of its gilding, and has a number of dents along its length. The front mother of pearl plaque is possibly not original?, although it is a good match(has minor chip in it). It is unclear whether the scabbard ever had a throat, but if so, it is now missing. Minor edge ding near tip of blade. Sword and grip seem solid with no movement I noticed.
Size: The sword is 38 ¾ inches long overall, with the sword out of the scabbard being 37 ¾ inches. The blade is 32 ½ inches long.
